Fresh from celebrating his maiden victory in the NTT INDYCAR Series, and before this weekend’s iconic Indy500 race, Pato O’Ward swaps his Arrow McLaren SP race car for McLaren Automotive’s road-legal GT4 racer, the 620R.
Join Pato as he explores the car’s limits at Willow Springs Raceway in the Californian desert, then quickly sets off to discover if the supercar really is a ‘race car for the road’…
Though serious enough to impress a pro driver, the latest and final Sports Series model is also perfect for amateur drivers and enthusiasts looking to hone their skills. Based on the McLaren 570S GT4, the McLaren 620R maximizes motorsport technology without the restriction of racing regulations and is the most powerful Sports Series vehicle ever with a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 611bhp and 457lb ft torque. The 620R shares aerodynamic hardware from the 570S GT4, creating 408lbs of downforce at 155mph. Lowered suspension with wider track carbon ceramic brakes and center locking wheels, and low-exit stainless steel sports exhaust all contribute to the overall experience – a true racecar for the road.
With a production run limited to just 225 globally and only 70 scheduled to reach North American shores, the McLaren 620R is as rare as it is potent.
