McLaren Automotive and Lockheed Martin Skunk Works® have announced that they will be collaborating on a futuristic new design methodology. Originally designed for the aviation industry, McLaren plans to use the cutting-edge software to design high-performance supercars more accurately and swiftly than traditional automotive design methods.
The engineers and scientists at McLaren Automotive will work alongside team members at Skunk Works to test and explore how these design methodologies can be applied to McLaren vehicles that are being sold commercially to customers around the world.
“McLaren is a pioneering company that has always pushed boundaries and sought out new innovative and disruptive solutions to making the ultimate supercars. Working alongside an iconic company such as Lockheed Martin Skunk Works®, renowned for their visionary focus on the future, is a natural fit. We hope this is the start of a longer and deeper collaboration that will benefit our customers in the long-term,” said Darren Goddard, CTO of McLaren Automotive.
To mark the start of their technological collaboration, both companies showcased recent projects at the Skunk Works headquarters in the California High Desert, including the Darkstar concept hypersonic aircraft seen in Top Gun: Maverick and the McLaren Artura supercar.
