McLaren Confirms FIA World Endurance Championship Participation with United Autosports.

McLaren Automotive has made a resounding declaration in the motorsport arena, confirming its intent to participate in the highly competitive FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) from the 2024 season onwards. This exciting venture will see McLaren fielding two exceptional 720S GT3 EVO cars in the LMGT3 class, further amplifying the brand’s illustrious history in endurance racing.

This strategic move marks McLaren’s triumphant return to WEC, and notably, to the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans after an impressive hiatus of 29 years. The decision to participate in WEC solidifies McLaren’s enduring commitment to high-stakes motorsport and their fervent pursuit of excellence.

In this exciting chapter of McLaren’s motorsport legacy, the esteemed United Autosports team has been handpicked as McLaren’s esteemed racing partner. United Autosports, based in Wakefield, Yorkshire, has established itself as a powerhouse in the world of sportscar and GT racing since its inception in 2010. Their impressive track record includes remarkable victories in WEC and the coveted Le Mans 24 Hours in 2020.

Motorsport remains a fundamental part of McLaren’s future of performance strategy, and we have long viewed the WEC as a natural fit for demonstrating the performance capabilities of our cars. This includes a return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans that is an intrinsic part of our enduring success in motorsport and in particular, the Triple Crown which is unique to McLaren as a supercar manufacturer and racing car constructor. We have selected United Autosports, who we feel shares our passion for endurance GT racing as well as the McLaren brand and, like McLaren, has a history of success in motorsport.

United Autosports has communicated to the Automobile Club de l’Ouest its intent to field two McLaren 720S GT3 EVOs in the 2024 WEC and we hope that their entry will be accepted. And we are looking forward to racing our rivals in the WEC from 2024.

This partnership between McLaren and United Autosports is more than a collaboration; it’s a fusion of expertise, passion, and a shared commitment to achieving unparalleled success on the global racing stage. With a lineage dating back to the legendary McLaren M1 sports racing car, this foray into WEC reaffirms McLaren’s legacy as a trailblazer in motorsport, promising fans an exhilarating spectacle on the track and setting the stage for a thrilling new chapter in their racing saga.
