McLaren Automotive unveiled the all-new McLaren Solus GT this week at Monterey Car Week in California, a limited production track-only supercar that features extreme styling and performance. The run of 25 vehicles was already sold before the public unveil, and the first production vehicles will be delivered in 2023.
The Solus GT is the realization of a concept car that was designed for the Gran Turismo Sport video game on PlayStation. McLaren drew on its years of experience building the ultimate performance vehicles to bring the Solus GT to reality.
At less than 2,205 pounds and with incredible aerodynamic performance and downforce, the single-seat Solus GT is capable of the fastest lap times of any McLaren vehicle outside of driving a Formula 1 car. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine that revs to more than 10,000 rpm and has 829 bhp.
The exterior design is as faithful as possible to the virtual concept car that inspired it, and is based on proven aerodynamic designs and principles developed by McLaren. To give drivers the full racing experience, the interior is set up like a race car and includes an F1-inspired steering wheel and drivers can have the seat molded to their individual body shape.
The carbon fiber body is incredibly strong and lightweight, and helps with both handling and acceleration. There are forged 18-inch wheels, and 6-piston calipers with carbon brake discs and pads for ultimate stopping power. Acceleration to 62 mph takes just 2.5 seconds, and the top speed is over 200 mph.
