New McLaren 750S Gets Bespoke Bowers & Wilkins Surround-Sound System

The new McLaren 750S, acclaimed as the lightest and most powerful series-production supercar from McLaren, introduces a bespoke 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System. This advanced audio system now incorporates Bowers & Wilkins’ proprietary Continuum™ Cone, offering an exceptional audio experience. Developed specifically for the 750S, the high-power system also includes Bowers & Wilkins’ trademark central Tweeter-on-Top and a brand-new amplifier, ensuring incredible sound fidelity.

Following their longstanding partnership and the successful launch of the Px8 McLaren Edition headphones in late 2022, the collaboration between McLaren Automotive and Bowers & Wilkins continues to thrive with the introduction of the new McLaren 750S. As the lightest and most powerful production model from McLaren, the 750S boasts various enhancements, including an improved infotainment system and enhanced exterior features. Available in both coupe and convertible forms, the rear-wheel drive 750S is undeniably a supercar designed for purists.

A significant improvement in the Bowers & Wilkins system is the incorporation of their revolutionary Continuum™ Cone, originally developed for the award-winning 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers found in Abbey Road Studios. Refined over eight years of intensive development, the Continuum™ Cone’s composite construction effectively absorbs vibrations that could compromise the performance of a conventional drive unit. It comes equipped with two 100mm Continuum® midrange speakers, placed one in each car door. This configuration enables a more open and neutral performance, faithfully reproducing the original recording and revealing intricate details in music that conventional automotive audio systems struggle to capture.

In addition, the dashboard, A-pillar, and rear of the new 750S house five 25mm Nautilus™ Aluminium Double Dome tweeters. Each tweeter incorporates Nautilus™ diffusers, which consist of spiralling channels designed to dissipate reflected sound waves originating from the rear of the drive unit. This innovative design delivers cleaner and more natural high frequencies.

The high-power system, developed specifically for the 750S by Bowers & Wilkins, also includes the premium audio specialist’s signature central Tweeter-on-Top for unparalleled sound fidelity. Completing the system are three additional midrange speakers and two Rohacell® bass drivers, resulting in a total of 12 high-performance speakers. The overall result is a remarkably detailed sound experience, with unwanted resonances minimized to the fullest extent.

In conjunction with these advanced technologies, the new Surround Sound System in the 750S benefits from a collaborative design, enabling Bowers & Wilkins’ proven technologies to deliver an automotive audio system that faithfully reproduces the original recording. This dedication to capturing True Sound, as referred to by Bowers & Wilkins, ensures the most authentic and immersive audio experience possible.

The long-standing partnership between McLaren and Bowers & Wilkins began with a conversation about how we can work together to enhance the occupant’s audio experience, which we know is fundamental to how our customers experience a McLaren supercar.

By combining our respective expertise in automotive and audio engineering, together McLaren and Bowers & Wilkins have created a thrilling and immersive audio environment.

Great care, thought and expertise was dedicated to finding the precise placement and calibration of the new Bowers & Wilkins audio system in the 750S to ensure that the occupants enjoy unparalleled sound quality, adding an additional layer of enjoyment to the McLaren experience.
